Course description

HND Practical Journalism is the only Scottish FE course accredited by the industry's National Council for the Training of Journalists, with feedback saying the course 'restores faith in journalism training'. In addition, it is the only FE course working as part of the Herald and Times Training Scheme, ensuring all candidates are given the opportunity to work across The Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times.

The course produces students ready to thrive in the challenging world of journalism, and we concentrate on the practical skills journalists need and editors demand: news writing, public affairs, law, shorthand, video recording and editing, sub-editing and online journalism. SQA units are supplemented by industry gold-standard NCTJ prelim exams. From the point of view of employment, many employers see this course as on a par with any journalism degree and it is ideal for school leavers, graduates or those looking to change or develop their career.
